Oil of a scene in the Cape, around three hours drive north of Cape Town. This particular reserve did not have much game apart from gazelle , but there were a great many rock paintings which were beautiful. This painting is available for sale, framed.

This is a simple study of a swan which I painted from one I saw at the Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset in the spring.  I enjoyed painting the different whites and the reflections.

I painted this at Christmas, trying to achieve a timeless look with paint onto a metallic finish board. The pigments used are transparent and layered, apart from the ones used on the faces.  The whole was then scraped into to give movement and texture.

This scene was painted above  the Cala Turquetta, in Minorca, and the boat waiting to go out of the cove is the pea green yacht.  The colours are very typical of the area, and there is a lot of contrasting underpainting to achieve the depth of colour of the sea.  I had in my mind at the time a thought of whether to stay safely on the warm sand, or to go...

This is a scene painted along the Garden Route in South Africa, but could perhaps be somewhere closer to home in the UK  except that the light is more pink, and there are a lot of mauves and pink and straw colours here.

Somehow this scene is very familiar, with the rows of vines, the purple mountain ranges and the pinkish soil in the foreground.  There are a couple of workers from the vineyard taking shelter from the sun under the tree as they wait for a lift home.  I have used a palette with a lot of pinks and mauve here to reflect the South African landscape and...
